Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held a meeting yesterday with US Deputy Special Representative for the Middle East Policy Morgan Ortagus, and Tim Lenderking, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs.
The meeting came on the sidelines of the Middle East-US Dialogue conference held in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, they discussed the strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States and explored avenues for strengthening bilateral co-operation, Ambassador TamimKhallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said.
The talks also focused on recent developments in Gaza and the West Bank, with both sides underscoring the importance of restoring calm, upholding the ceasefire, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Minister Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s pivotal role in the Gaza reconstruction initiative, noting the country’s efforts to convene an international conference in coordination with global partners to support rebuilding efforts.
He also emphasised the urgency of pursuing a political resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on international legitimacy, ultimately leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The discussions also covered the situations in Lebanon, Syria, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen. Both parties highlighted the need to safeguard freedom of navigation in the Red Sea amid rising regional tensions.
