Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry asserted the urgent need to break the deadlock between the Palestinians and Israelis to launch a just and comprehensive negotiating process based on international legitimacy resolutions.
Shoukry made the remarks Sunday during a meeting with Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid in Brussels, Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.
The top diplomat further stressed that any negotiations must lead to establishing a viable Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (Al-Quds) as its capital, which is critically important for consolidating regional security and stability.
“Cairo will never fail to support any international efforts to achieve that end,” Shoukry told the Israeli official.
He went on to reaffirm that, “Egypt is expecting the Israeli side to refrain from any action that might undermine the opportunity to create an environment conducive to peace and stability”.
