Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty met with American journalist Fareed Zakaria, host of CNN’s weekly current affairs program GPS, to outline Egypt’s positions on regional security, Gaza and economic reform.

Abdelatty said Egypt was working to bolster security and stability across the Middle East, guided by a foreign policy that prioritizes political and diplomatic solutions, de-escalation and addressing the root causes of conflicts. He highlighted Egypt’s efforts to help sustain a ceasefire in Gaza, move toward the requirements of a second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan and advance early recovery and reconstruction.

The minister also briefed Zakaria on Egypt’s domestic agenda, pointing to steps to implement economic reforms, improve the investment climate and expand the role of the private sector to attract foreign investment and strengthen economic partnerships. He cited a range of development projects launched over the past decade across multiple sectors, saying they had helped improve Egypt’s economic and development indicators despite regional turbulence.

The meeting included a wide-ranging review of regional and international issues, including developments in Iran, Syria and Sudan, the dispute over Ethiopia’s dam, the Horn of Africa and the war in Ukraine, and their direct implications for regional and global stability.
