Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri reiterated Egypt’s firm stance towards the Yemeni crisis, given that Yemen is one of the pillars of Arab national security. He also stressed the need for a political solution to the crisis to reach a comprehensive settlement according to the agreed terms of reference.
The foreign minister’s remarks came as he received Chairman of the Yemeni Shura Council Ahmed Obaid bin Dagher and reviewed developments in the Yemeni crisis and means to bolster Egypt’s support for Yemen to
get out of its current ordeal.
This should be carried out in a manner that leads to putting an end to negative interferences in Yemen, ensure its unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, and preserve the resources of the Yemeni people, the foreign minister said.
Shoukri welcomed the initiative announced by Saudi Arabia in March 2021 to resolve the Yemeni crisis and underscored the necessity of all Yemeni parties rallying around the Saudi initiative in order to stop the bloodshed and support efforts to bring peace to Yemen.
For his part, the chairman of the Yemeni Shura Council expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support to Yemen and the Yemeni community residing in Egypt. He also voiced his country’s aspiration to strengthen bilateral co-operation with Egypt in various fields, especially in priority areas for the Yemeni side.
