FM: Serious political solution in Sudan should be based on Sudanese vision

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday said that a serious political solution in Sudan should be based on a Sudanese vision developed by the Sudanese people, without pressure from any external parties.

He added that the Sudanese vison should be developed in light of proposals made by active regional and international institutions.

This came during the foreign minister’s participation in the first session of the fourth edition of Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, which kicked off in Cairo earlier Tuesday with the participation of a galaxy of notable officials including Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit, Union Commission (AUC) Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat and Munich Security Conference (MSC) Chairperson Ambassador Christoph Heusgen.

While delivering a speech during the session, which is titled: “Worlds Apart: Linking Peace, Security and Development in a Torn World”, Shoukry reviewed crises wrecking havoc across the African continent and called for harmonizing regional and international efforts to boost security and stability across the continent.

He asserted Egypt’s eagerness on applying the “African solutions to African problems” principal along with eliminating foreign interference that contributes to complicating the situation in some African countries, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman.

As regarding the Sudanese crisis, Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s continued efforts to put an end to the war in Sudan, the spokesman said.

He underscored the importance of addressing the causes of the crisis through reaching a comprehensive political solution aimed at serving the higher interests of the Sudanese people as well as maintaining security and stability across the region.
