CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed that Egypt has strong and historical ties with Armenia.
The minister made remarks on Thursday when he received his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan, said Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abo Zeid.
Mirzoyan lauded his country’s good relations with Egypt, voicing hope to cement fruitful cooperation.
Both sides agreed on the need to strengthen economic co-operation and trade exchange in different domains, particularly the field of medicine.
They also discussed a proposal to launch a direct airline between Egypt and Armenia to contribute to promoting tourism and business.
Shoukry shed light on the successful visit of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Yerevan in January, which was the first visit of an Egyptian president to Armenia, calling for building on the results of this visit to enhance bilateral cooperation.
The ministers also underlined the need to hold the sixth round of the joint committee of economic, scientific and technical cooperation under the presidency of the minister of international cooperation and Armenian minister of economy in Cairo mid 2023.
