Egypt installs dry shielding for Unit 3 at El Dabaa nuclear plant
Egypt has installed the dry shielding component for Unit 3 of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, marking another milestone in the construction of the country’s first nuclear facility, the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) said Friday.
The component was positioned inside the reactor cavity using specialised heavy cranes at elevations ranging from 4.850 to 10.025 metres, the authority said.
Egypt’s unemployment rate drops to 5.8%, minister says
Egypt’s unemployment rate has fallen to 5.8 per cent from about 13 per cent in 2014, Labour Minister Hassan Raddad said Saturday. He called the decline a major achievement under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Speaking at a news conference in Cairo to launch general regulations governing workplaces in private-sector companies and establishments, Raddad attributed the drop to government efforts to attract investment, expand national projects, improve job-oriented training and co-operate with the private sector.

Egypt women claim table tennis gold at Taranto 2026
TARANTO — Egypt’s women’s table tennis team won the gold medal in the team event at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games, which are taking place until September 3 with 3,803 athletes from 26 countries taking part.
The Egyptian team defeated Italy 3-0 in the final, after reaching the title match with a 3-0 victory over Serbia in the semi-finals.
Norway’s new king to take oath Tuesday
The new king of Norway, Haakon VIII, will take his oath of allegiance to the constitution next Tuesday after the death of his father Harald V, reported German news agency dpa.
The date was announced to the broadcaster NRK on Friday by the speaker of the Norwegian parliament, Masud Gharahkhani.
The oath is mandatory for the new monarch and will take place in the parliament, known as the Storting, close to the Royal Palace in Oslo.
Russian strike on Kyiv kills 27
At least 27 people were killed after a Russian drone strike on a Kyiv-area warehouse sparked a detonation, officials said on Saturday, prompting calls by President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to punish those responsible.
Another 42 people were also injured and more than 380 evacuated from the strike area in the Bucha district, Tymur Tkachenko, governor of the Kyiv region, wrote on the Telegram app.
Tkachenko did not provide details about what was hit in the strike late on Friday. Zelenskiy said a strike on a warehouse had triggered a detonation and that nearby infrastructure suffered “significant damage”, including residential buildings and a facility providing care for the elderly.
