Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed on Sunday with EU envoy for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber ways to support security, stability and development in the region.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Doha Forum in the Qatari capital.Abdelatty welcomed the growing momentum in Egypt–EU relations, saying the first Egypt–EU summit held on October 22 marked an important turning point in advancing cooperation between the two sides.
He stressed the need to build on the summit’s outcome across various fields and to move forward with implementing the six pillars of the strategic partnership.The minister underscored the importance of securing a ceasefire in Sudan and creating conditions for a comprehensive political process that preserves the country’s unity, sovereignty and stability.He referred to the outcome of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11, calling for coordinated regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and national institutions, particularly within the framework of the International Quartet.
Abdelatty also emphasized the need to establish an effective humanitarian channel to ensure the unhindered delivery of aid.He reiterated Egypt’s support for efforts to strengthen security and stability in Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa.He reviewed the work of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia, stressing the urgency of securing funding for the mission to enable it to fulfil its role in combating terrorism and supporting stability in the country.
