Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty Monday discussed with President and CEO of the International Crisis Group (ICG) Comfort Ero the latest developments in the region.

During a meeting in New York with ICG head, Abdelatty condemned in the strongest possible terms the treacherous Israeli aggression against Qatar, affirming Egypt’s total rejection of attempts to undermine the security and stability of countries in the region.

Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s vision on the crisis in Gaza, underscoring the significance of reaching a ceasefire deal, ensuring unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities to meet the needs of the Palestinian people as well as safeguarding civilians and halting targeting the infrastructure.

He firmly rejected proposals involving forced displacement and reaffirmed the Palestinian people’s right to remain on their land and establish an independent state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem (AL Quds city) as its capital.

Abdelatty shed light on Egypt’s arrangements to host an international conference for outlining an early recovery and reconstruction plan in Gaza following a ceasefire.

The top Egyptian diplomat highlighted efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

The meeting tackled the Iranian nuclear file, with Abdelatty highlighting the recent agreement reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Cairo on September 9, marking the first agreement to resume cooperation between the two sides following the Israeli attack on Iran.

He emphasized the importance of giving an opportunity for diplomacy, fostering de-escalation, rebuilding trust, and creating an environment conducive to regional security and stability.

The meeting tackled the situation in Sudan, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s support for efforts aimed at restoring stability, improving humanitarian conditions, and reaching a resolution that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, national institutions, and the rights of its people.

He also emphasized support for the voluntary return of displaced persons and the reconstruction process.
