Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell discussed during their talks in Brussels Tuesday regional files and issues of common interest.
In this context, Foreign Minister Shoukri highlighted Egypt’s vision aimed at finding solutions to regional crises in order to restore stability and achieve prosperity for the peoples of the region.
During the meeting, the foreign minister discussed the situation in Libya, the Palestinian cause, advancing the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis and efforts to rebuild the Gaza Strip. He also dwelt on the Ethiopian dam file and efforts to combat illegal immigration and terrorism.
FM Shoukri and Borrell stressed the strategic nature of Egypt’s relations with the European Union, and their importance in light of the increasing common challenges regionally and internationally and the great opportunities available for cooperation between the two sides.
They also agreed to activate all co-operation mechanisms existing under the Egyptian-European Partnership Agreement.

Also Tuesday, FM Shoukri held a meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs, Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions Sophie Wilmes to advance various aspects of bilateral relations between the two sides.
Minister Shoukri praised the interest of Belgian companies in participating in Egyptian development plans, especially in infrastructure and renewable energy projects.
He also referred to the importance of developing cooperation in combating antiquities smuggling in addition to working to restore tourism from Belgium, in light of the strict precautionary measures applied to combat the spread of the coronavirus in Egypt’s tourist destinations.
Minister Shoukri also presented the ongoing national efforts on many fronts to advance human rights situation and Egypt’s success in combating illegal immigration. He noted that Egypt is hosting about 6 million immigrants and refugees.
The meeting also touched on a number of regional issues and files of common interest at the international level, such as the developments of the Palestinian cause and the file of Ethiopia’s dam.
