CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasised during a phone call he received on Sunday from Magnus Brunner, the European Union Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, the importance of strengthening existing co-operation with the European Union through a comprehensive approach that links migration with development, and focuses on addressing the root causes of irregular migration.

The call tackled ways to enhance co-operation between Egypt and the EU on migration issues.

Minister Abdelatty noted that migration represents a shared challenge for both Egypt and the European Union, requiring enhanced coordination based on mutual interests, with the goal of supporting stability and development efforts in the region.

He also stressed the importance of continuing the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects, whether within the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership or through existing cooperation programs.

He highlighted the importance of enhancing partnership in the field of regular migration by launching joint programs for vocational and technical education and training, which would help qualify Egyptian labor and facilitate its integration into the European labor market in line with market needs and requirements.

In this context, Abdelatty also outlined the burdens borne by the Egyptian state in hosting nearly 10 million foreigners, including refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers. who receive basic services on par with Egyptian citizens, emphasizing the resulting economic pressures.
