Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed importance of the Arab Parliament’s role in entrenching an effective and balanced Arab presence on the international arena.
The Foreign minister made the remarks Monday during a meeting with Speaker of the Arab Parliament (AP) Mohamed Al-Yamahi, as part of efforts to support joint Arab action in addressing current challenges.
Egypt values the role played by the AP as a unifying platform for expressing the aspirations of Arab peoples and as a key supporter of common Arab positions, Abdelatty said.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to develop the AP’s working mechanisms and enhance its institutional performance, enabling it to keep pace with rapid regional and international changes.
According to the foreign minister all efforts would help unify Arab parliamentary visions on political, economic and development issues.
The meeting also addressed the importance of expanding the Parliament’s role in supporting economic, social and cultural cooperation among Arab states, strengthening ties between Arab peoples, serving sustainable development goals and bolstering regional stability.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of continued consultation and coordination with the AP’s leadership over coming period, citing vital role parliamentary diplomacy can play in supporting joint Arab action and advancing collective Arab interests.
