Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri is heading the Egyptian delegation to the 35th African Union (AU) summit which kicked off in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Saturday.
The foreign minister traveled to Ethiopia late on Friday, accompanying a high-level delegation from his ministry to attend the summit which lasts until Sunday.
Heads of state and government officials attending the summit have a wide range of issues on the table to discuss, including peace and security in the continent, the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic on African countries, climate change, and economic integration among African states.
Foreign Minister Shoukri is expected to meet a host of African counterparts on the sidelines of his participation in the summit, Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, said in a statement earlier.
Talks between Foreign Minister Shoukri and the African officials he will meet will focus on co-operation and means of strengthening relations between Egypt and other fellow African states, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said.
He added that the foreign minister would also exchange views with African officials on issues of mutual concern.
