CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty handed over a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his Lebanese counterpart Joseph Aoun, in which he expressed Egypt’s full support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and its solidarity with the Lebanese government.

The foreign minister handed over the message during his meeting with the Lebanese president on Friday, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said in statements.

During their meeting, Abdelatty conveyed President Sisi’s congratulations to Aoun on taking the helm as the new president of Lebanon.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s praise of the step of electing a new president which paved the way for a new phase in Lebanon that will help achieve security and stability in the country.

He underlined Egypt’s position in support of the Lebanese state institutions.

The foreign minister reiterated Egypt’s full support for implementing the agreement on the cessation of hostilities in southern Lebanon and demanding an immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, to enable the Lebanese army and state institutions to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006).

Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt’s support of the full and immediate implementation of this resolution by both sides, urging Israel to stop violating Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Egypt will also continue to offer all support for Lebanon, Abdelatty said, expressing Egypt’s keenness on promoting economic cooperation with Lebanon in all sectors.

The Egyptian companies are also ready to contribute to the development and reconstruction process in Lebanon, Abdelatty added.

For his part, the Lebanese president asked the foreign minister to convey his greetings to President Sisi, commending Egypt’s continued support for his country over the recent period at the political and humanitarian levels.

President Aoun also expressed his aspiration for enhancing cooperation with Egypt in all fields.
