Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati praised the humanitarian role of Egyptian healthcare institutions across Africa during a meeting yesterday with world-renowned cardiac surgeon Professor Magdi Yacoub.

Abdel-Aati commended Professor Yacoub and his medical team for their pivotal role and sincere dedication to deploying advanced medical expertise in the service of the most vulnerable communities in Egypt, across Africa and in other developing countries. He described their initiatives as a model for fostering solidarity, strengthening partnerships and supporting sustainable development throughout the continent.

The foreign minister also lauded the close co-operation between the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) and Professor Yacoub in implementing health and humanitarian projects in Africa, with particular emphasis on the Egypt–Rwanda Heart Centre, scheduled to open later this year as a regional hub for specialised cardiac care for African patients.

He stressed the strategic importance of the centre in positioning Rwanda as a leading medical hub in East and Central Africa, underscoring the need to mobilise funding and expedite the completion of technical and medical preparations ahead of its inauguration.
