Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri affirmed Thursday that the High Dam’s reservoir may absorb much of the repercussions of the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) reservoir, adding that a technical assessment shall be carried out.
Addressing the African Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, Shoukri added that the future measures remain dependent on the extent of the damage inflicted on Egypt, due to the abundance of flood waters and the ability to refill the Aswan Dam reservoir.
He added that Egypt was assessing the potential damage that may occur to the brothers in Sudan, in the light of the proximity of the second filling of the GERD reservoir scheduled for the next 3 months.
He told the committee that technical assessment indicates that no harm will occur to Egypt from the second filling but if damage occurs, all state agencies will work to confront this harm.
