Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry Thursday said throughout Egypt’s presidency of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) it managed to achieve a major leap in transition from the stage of promises and outlining rules and commitments to the stage of implementation.
The establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund as well as the adoption of A Mitigation Work Program are remarkable achievements of COP27, said Shoukry while handing over the presidency of COP28 to Sultan Al Jaber, the president-designate of COP28.
The previous edition of the Climate Change Conference had been held in unfavorable circumstances when the world was still reeling and healing from repercussions of the coronavirus combined with the eruption of the Ukrainian crisis, however, Egypt managed during its presidency to reach very crucial outcomes, Shoukry added.
The COP27 has contributed to reinforcing the climate action throughout this year through calling for the reformation of the international financial institutions and paying due attention to the renewable energy for utilization in the future, Shoukry noted.
He added that COP27 marked the launch of new era for climate action and climate change resilience.
