Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed Egypt’s keenness on ending the crisis in Gaza and restoring peace and stability in the region.
Cairo has been calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and pressing for action to stop the displacement of Palestinians since the start of the war in the besieged enclave, Shoukry said in statements to Al Qahera News Wednesday.
He added that ending the war in Gaza is a top priority of all the Arab leaders meeting in the Manama summit.
The top diplomat urged the world community to take tangible measures to get Israel to stop its war and save the innocent people in Palestine.
“None of the international community’s words have been translated into action till now,” Shoukry noted.
He warned of Israel’s continued military operation in Gaza and its expansion to Palestinian Rafah, pointing out that this would make the humanitarian situation even more catastrophic.
He made it clear that the Arab Summit in Manama will focus on supporting the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution.
Commenting on Egypt’s decision to go to the International Court of Justice, Shoukry said this move is meant to prevent genocide in the Gaza Strip. He added that statements made by the Israeli government do not reflect any willingness to achieve peace.
The Palestinian people deserve to have their own independent state, Shoukry said.
