Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Abroad Badr Abdel-Aati has reaffirmed the depth of the longstanding historical, cultural and popular ties between Egypt and Syria, highlighting their shared heritage and the enduring bonds between their peoples.
He also reiterated that Egypt’s approach to the Syrian crisis has consistently been guided by firm principles aimed at restoring security and stability, while preserving Syria’s unity and national cohesion.
In this context, Minister Abdel-Aati received on Sunday Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Mr Asaad Al-Shaibani in Cairo, where they held extensive talks in the presence of Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem and Syrian Minister of Economy and Industry Mr Mohammed Nidal Al-Shaar.
The discussions addressed avenues for strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing coordination on regional developments of mutual interest.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that Minister Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people in all their diversity, stressing full respect for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, stability and territorial integrity.
He also underscored the importance of preserving Syrian national institutions and rejecting all forms of foreign interference in its internal affairs, in order to achieve comprehensive internal stability.
Dr Abdel-Aati further emphasised the need to intensify efforts to combat terrorism and extremism in all their forms, address the issue of foreign fighters, and ensure that Syria becomes a source of regional stability.
On the regional front, Abdel-Aati expressed Egypt’s categorical rejection and condemnation of Israel’s violations of Syrian sovereignty.
He reiterated Egypt’s firm opposition to any attempts to exploit the current situation in Syria to occupy additional territory or undermine its security and stability, calling on Israel to adhere to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
He also reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering position in support of ending the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights.
The talks also covered rapidly evolving regional developments, including the trajectory of US-Iranian negotiations and ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions.
