Egyptian Foreign Minister and President-Designate of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) Sameh Shoukry said Egypt as the COP27 president focuses on the importance of effective and swift implementation of climate pledges.
He made the remarks on Thursday in a recorded speech at the opening of the Arab Regional Forum for Climate Finance in Beirut.
This is the fourth regional forum held within the framework of preparations for the COP 27 due to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.
Shoukry stressed the importance of turning agreements and commitments into initiatives on the ground through partnerships that can become real stories of success for addressing climate change.
Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt, takes part in the event alongside Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) Rola Dashti.
A number of ministers and senior officials and representatives for the private and public sectors also attend the event.
The forum focuses on Arab countries’ needs for financing climate action to ensure water, energy and food security in light of climate change.
