Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty visited Eritrea on Friday where he delivered a verbal message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Eritrea’s President Isaias Afwerki in Asmara on strengthening and developing bilateral relations in addition to regional issues of mutual interest.

The Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khallaf said Saturday that the visit follows up on a historic trip of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Asmara in October 2024.

The visit also aims at activating a tripartite coordination mechanism between Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia, following January’s first ministerial meeting in Cairo.

They discussed strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in the different domains for the mutual interests of both nations, he added.

The meeting also tackled exchanging points of view on regional issues of mutual interest topped by the situation in Africa and means to support peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

The meeting also discussed supporting Somalia in combating terrorism in addition to the latest development in Sudan.

The meeting also covered the situation in Libya and the Sahel of Africa region, as well as recent developments in Red Sea security and governance.

For his part, Afwerki said that his country is looking forward promoting bilateral ties in the different domains to meet the aspirations of both countries and reflect the historical ties between them.
