Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty underscored the importance of full implementation of Sharm El Sheikh agreement, beginning early recovery and reconstruction steps and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, on the sidelines of the G20 summit, currently taking place in South Africa.
The meeting tackled developments of the Palestinian issue.
During the meeting, Abdelatty urged intensifying international efforts to ensure the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and expedite the formation of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in Gaza to carry out its responsibilities and mandate there.
He reviewed preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the international conference on early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, expressing hope that the UK would participate in the event as a key partner, in order to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The meeting addressed the situation in Sudan. Abdelatty briefed Powell on Egypt’s efforts within the framework of the Quad Mechanism to support de-escalation and reach a comprehensive ceasefire there.
The top Egyptian diplomat reaffirmed the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to pave the way for launching an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability.
Abdelatty further reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support of the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
