Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted Egypt’s steadfast positions in support of Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

He expressed full rejection of any plans to divide Sudan.

He emphasized the importance of preserving Sudan’s national institutions and safeguarding its sovereignty and the resources of the Sudanese people.

This came during two phone calls received by Abdelatty from Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs and Senior Advisor for African Affairs Massad Boulos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher.

The discussions focused on the rapidly deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Sudan, particularly in Darfur and the city of Al-Fashir and explored ways to promote calm and restore stability.

Abdelatty stressed the need to adhere to the International Quartet’s statement issued on September 12, emphasizing the importance of swiftly reaching an effective humanitarian truce that could pave the way for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.

Boulos reviewed the latest developments and US efforts within the framework of the International Quartet to halt violations occurring in Sudan, particularly in areas affected by the Darfur conflict.

Meanwhile, the call with Fletcher involved exchanging perspectives on strengthening the international response to the ongoing crisis and ensuring humanitarian aid access to the most affected populations.
