Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati held intensive phone calls on Tuesday with counterparts in three Gulf states, and Jordan to coordinate efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.
Minister Abdel Aati spoke with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi. The talks addressed the grave and ongoing escalation in the region.
Abdel-Aati voiced Egypt’s condemnation of the continued Iranian attacks targeting Gulf countries and Jordan, and stressed the need for an immediate halt to these unacceptable actions, which he described as a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, as well as an infringement on state sovereignty.
He also discussed the ongoing efforts to prevent further deterioration of the situation, underlining the importance of continued and intensified coordination with brotherly and friendly countries to contain the crisis and avoid further escalation.
The ministers also reviewed the outcomes of the recent quadrilateral ministerial meeting held in Islamabad, and exchanged views on how to build on its results and sustain regional and international efforts to stop the war, de-escalate tensions, advance diplomatic solutions, and prioritise dialogue as the only path to preventing wider regional instability.
