Egypt’s  Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed during a phone call on Saturday with Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide the importance of concerted international efforts to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire agreement and transition to the arrangements of the second phase of the plan of US President Donald Trump.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that the two ministers exchanged views and assessments on several regional developments, topped by the situation in the Gaza Strip.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of any practices that undermine the unity of Palestinian territories or impose new realities in the West Bank.

He condemned, in this context, the continued settlement expansion in the West Bank, stressing the international community’s duty to halt escalation in the West Bank and settler attacks against Palestinian civilians.

He also highlighted the need to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip’s residents and create the necessary environment to initiate an early recovery process and reconstruction.

He commended Norway’s supportive stance toward the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The spokesperson added that the call addressed the situation in Sudan, where the Foreign Minister briefed his Norwegian counterpart on Egypt’s efforts within the Quartet mechanism to push toward a comprehensive ceasefire.

In this regard, he reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, as well as the preservation of its national institutions.

He also emphasized the importance of the international community fulfilling its humanitarian responsibilities to ensure safe havens and sufficient humanitarian corridors for unhindered delivery of aid.

Regarding developments in the Horn of Africa region, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as its legitimate institutions, and rejected any unilateral measures that undermine Somali sovereignty.

He condemned attempts to impose parallel entities that contradict the unity of the Somali state.

He also expressed Egypt’s categorical rejection and condemnation of violations of established principles of international law and the UN Charter.

The two ministers agreed on the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states to preserve the stability of the international order.

The ministers also discussed the Ukrainian crisis, agreeing on the need for a peaceful and diplomatic settlement that achieves regional and international security and stability.
