Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Thursday asserted the necessity of continuing close coordination with China to handle crises in the region and ensure the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Shoukry, in statements to Nile News channel on the sidelines of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, said that China is a great nation and a permanent member of the UN Security Council that always supports Arab causes, specially the Palestinian one.
He hailed China’s support of reaching a ceasefire deal in Palestine and allowing the delivery of humanitarian assistance, along with rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinians issues through the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.
He highlighted China’s support to Palestine at the UNSC along with backing the recognition of Palestine and its full United Nations membership.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held expanded and in-depth discussion that tackled all Egyptian-Chinses political, economic and cultural cooperation issues, the Egyptian top diplomat said.
Shoukry added that meeting showed a strong political will for upholding joint action in all fields.
The foreign minister shed light on the mounting international pressure to halt the war in the Gaza strip and contain the catastrophe there that have devastating repercussions on the Palestinian people.
As regards Egypt’s action towards the water security issues, Shoukry said that Egypt takes part in all multilateral forums concerned with the water issue to put forward its viewpoint that aligns with the international law.
Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of any threats to the water security, which is deemed an existential issue. He added that Egypt will confront any attempts to negatively affect its water security.
As for the outcomes of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum, the foreign minister said the statement of the forum underscores shared views of Arab states and China as well as willingness to intensify cooperation in all the political, economic and cultural spheres.
Shoukry added that the forum represents a crucial step for continuing the advancement of Arab-Chinses relations and creating further opportunities for cooperation.
