CAIRO – Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Monday expressed appreciation for support provided by the World Bank (WB) to Egypt’s continued economic development efforts.
Shoukry said that he is looking forward to promoting co-operation with the WB, in light of several crises wrecking havoc across the world and region.
The foreign minister made the remarks during a meeting with WB’s Managing Director of Operations Anna Bjerde, who is on a visit to Egypt for discussions on boosting co-operation between Egypt and the bank.
The meeting tackled areas of co-operation, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid, adding that Shoukry reviewed Egypt’s latest economic developments as well as progress achieved by the country’s economic reform programme in this regard.
Both sides exchanged views regarding a set of issues of top priority, in particular the updates of the regional crises in the Gaza Strip and Sudan as well as humanitarian, economic and political challenges posed by these crises, Abu Zeid said.
Shoukry was keen on briefing the WB official on Egypt’s stance as regards regional issues. The foreign minister highlighted Egypt’s effective role in fostering peace and security across the region, the spokesman stated.
