Deputy Executive Director of the Food Export Council (FEC) Tameem el Dawy expected an increase in the food industry sector’s exports during this year by about 20% to register $5 billion, compared to nearly $4.057 billion in the same period last year.

In statements Sunday, El Dawy said the FEC managed to maintain growth rates of 18% despite the high cost of supply chains and freight and the spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant.

The food industry sector’s exports account for 13% of the country’s non-oil exports, he said, noting that a range of new companies have entered the export field.

Talking about the FEC’s plans to organize promotional tours, el Dawy said that the FEC attaches special importance to the African market, especially that the government shoulders 80 percent of the total cost of products shipping to the African markets among the incentives the support program.

Several promotional tours to Sudan, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda were organized in 2021.

A commercial mission will be organized to Jordan, which ranks the fourth in the list of the largest importers of Egyptian food industries, he said.
