In light of the continuous rise of the dollar price and the hard circumstances that the country faces, people have recently looked for several ways to save their money for providing life’s essentials.
Clothing is considered an indispensable essential for anyone. Because clothing prices have recently risen above the normal average, Egyptians started to look for less expensive alternatives.
Thus, El Wekala is the best choice for saving money and getting the perfect fabric with an affordable budget.
“I have started buying my clothes from El Wekala since 2012 when I was a student, especially as a fine arts student. I would prefer to have unique pieces,” Noran Elbannan, a thriftier influencer, said.
“In addition, as a college student, I don’t have enough money to buy a lot of clothes,” she added.
El Wekala, located in Bulaq Abul-Ela neighborhood, is a thrift market known for selling the bale and the used clothes.
Moreover, it also sells the European stock clothes, which are new and have well-known brands.
“El Wekala needs patience and extra effort to find a good piece which is unworn and suitable to be used. This may take many hours to find a single piece,” Elbannan told The Egyptian Gazette.
Elbannan added that, last year, she was lucky many times as she got designer pieces for good deals. She found an 80th wool jacket for the French designer, Jean Paul Gaultier, for only 70 Egyptian pounds.
“When I searched for the real price on its website, I found it for 9000 Egyptian pounds at that time, which is definitely now more expensive,” Elbannan said.
She also got a top shirt, designed by the Italian designer, John Galliano, who was designing for Dior, for only 75 Egyptian pounds.
The mentioned prices are well known for buying a cup of coffee or affording a ride, not for ancient and unique pieces that are valuable to anyone who understands their history.
El Wekala is for all classes not only the poor.
“Some people feel ashamed to mention that they buy their clothes from El Wekala and I was one of them as our society doesn’t encourage the used and cheapest ones.”
“Step by step, I have gained my self-confidence to accept the disappointed comments about my outfits,” Elbannan told the Egyptian Gazette.
Elbannan now uses her social media platforms to influence and encourage her followers to buy their unique and affordable clothes from El-Wekala and not feel ashamed to mention that.
Just one single piece from the store can afford you more than 10 pieces from El Wekala. The saved money can be used in any other essential sector of life.
Not only buying the bale clothes which can save money, as people can also sell their old ones or swap them for new items.
In addition to saving money, used clothes promote sustainability and recycling rather than being discarded, which harms the environment.
