Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag on Monday received the visiting Serbian Minister of Family Welfare and Demography Darija Kisic and an accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, el-Qabbag reviewed Egypt’s experience in family development and facing overpopulation. She also touched on the measures taken by the state to care for orphans, and boosting the role of care institutions as well as the sponsorship system to provide the young with psychological and health support.
El-Qabbag also pointed to the cash support programme Takaful wa Karama (Solidarity and Dignity) and its targeted groups, in addition to the National Project to Preserve the Entity of the Egyptian Family (Mawaddah), which was launched as part of the efforts to curb the high rates of divorce.
The meeting with the Serbian delegation, in the meantime touched on the various services offered to families in the new communities to which people in former slums were moved.
El-Qabbag stressed the major role played by 35,000 civil society organisations in Egypt, which form the a key player in community development.
For her part, Serbian Minister of Family Welfare and Demography Darija Kisic, commended the state in Egypt for its efforts in family development and facing the population issue.
She also reviewed her country’s efforts and services pertaining to disability, early childhood development services, as well as the population problem.
Serbia has been suffering from a decline in population growth over five decades in a row.
