Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine el-Qabbag attended the Mother’s Day celebrations at the Police Officer’s Wives and Families Association at the Gomhouria Theatre on Monday.
Several MPs, art and media figures attended the event.
The minister honoured the wives and families of martyred armed forces and police officers.
The role of civil society is based on participation, social responsibility, respect for the other, support for equal opportunities, community development, and contribution to the achievement of social justice and promotion of human rights, the minister said.
All non-profit social, economic, social and cultural institutions form a social contract between the citizen and the state to regulate participation within civil institutional channels that work in solidarity and are based on voluntary work and popular initiatives to achieve public interests, cultural balance, and social and economic stability, the minister added.
El-Qabbag also spoke of support by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for rights of all classes of society within the framework of the National Strategy for Human Rights.
As for the ministry’s role in economic empowerment and social protection, el-Qabbag said they had offered financing to 400,000 macro enterprises at low interest rates, noting that 75 per cent of the beneficiaries are women.
In addition, up to 292,000 women have been qualified to work for themselves or others, she added.
