The Ministry of Interior opened last week a new Rehabilitation Centre at the Wadi el-Natroun Prison Complex which is one of the largest prisons worldwide.
The complex, located in northern Egypt, was established in almost 10 months, in accordance with the highest global standards and specifications.
It includes farms for animal breeding, workshops, vocational training facilities, playgrounds, recreational areas, a well-equipped central hospital and a series of specialized clinics along with study halls and eight courtrooms.
Around 12 prisons, representing 25 per cent of total public jails nationwide, were closed due to the operation of the new complex in Wadi el-Natroun.
The Prisons Authority had recently released 20,516 inmates in line with a pardon by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
