Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Abul Gheit asserted the provision of a mechanism for regional co-operation and exchange of expertise and information in competition, particularly at times of crises, would have positive effects on the economies of Arab countries.
Such mechanism is very important in containing the repercussions of monopoly and the deals harming competition, added Abul Gheit in an address, delivered on his behalf by Assistant Secretary General of the AL at the first conference of the Arab Competition Network at the league’s headquarters on Wednesday.
Abul Gheit stressed that the pan-Arab organisation always seeks to promote Arab, economic integration as a top priority.
The AL chief praised successful efforts exerted by the Competition Protection Agency in Egypt to prevent any monopoly practices in the country.
He underlined the need for developing an Arab network for joint co-operation in competition in the Arab world in the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic repercussions on markets, including the closure of customs outlets.
