In line with Egypt’s vision of advancing the localisation of medicine across Africa, Dr Ali al-Ghamrawi, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), met with Dole Gueu Albert, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire in Cairo, to discuss strategies for strengthening bilateral relations in pharmaceutical sector.
The discussions focused on means to boost co-operation between the EDA and Côte d’Ivoire’s pharmaceutical authorities. Key topics included streamlining pharmaceutical registration processes, facilitating the entry of Egyptian medicines into the Ivorian market, and collaborating on drug regulation, capacity building, technical training, and knowledge exchange.
Dr Ghamrawi expressed Egypt’s readiness to support Côte d’Ivoire’s regulatory pharmaceutical system by providing technical and procedural backing. He highlighted the EDA’s ambition to expand access to Egyptian pharmaceutical products in Côte d’Ivoire, ensuring mutual benefits and shared growth.
Al-Ghamrawi also noted the EDA’s achievement as Africa’s first pharmaceutical regulatory authority to earn World Health Organisation (WHO) accreditation at the third maturity level for pharmaceuticals and vaccines. According to him, this milestone places Egypt at the forefront of reshaping Africa’s pharmaceutical industry, leveraging its strategic location, significant capabilities, and extensive experience to strengthen the continent’s drug security.
He reaffirmed EDA’s commitment to regional pharmaceutical integration, improving access to Egyptian medicines in African markets, and contributing to the continent’s pharmaceutical security.
For his part, the Ivorian diplomat commended EDA’s leadership in fostering African partnerships and expressed Côte d’Ivoire’s eagerness to benefit from Egyptian pharmaceutical expertise. He described this collaboration as pivotal to advancing Côte d’Ivoire’s pharmaceutical sector.
