CAIRO – European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson praised Egypt’s experiment in confronting illegal migration, underlining the importance of expanding co-operation between Egypt and the European Union over border management and migration.
The EU official’s remarks were made during her meeting with a number of journalists on the fringe of her current visit to Cairo where she held talks with Egyptian officials on beefing up ties.
Responding to reporters’ questions, Johansson said the EU needs to manage the migration file in cooperation with its partners especially Egypt, which is a key partner that the EU is counting on.
She also commended the Egyptian efforts in countering the illegal migration which endangers the lives of many youths who are seeking to find work opportunities in Europe.
As regards the outcome of her meeting with Azhar Grand Imam Sheikh Ahmed El Tayyeb, the EU official said Egypt has played a key role in spreading the culture of coexistence, enhancing dialogue and establishing peace.
She also underlined Egypt’s experiment in establishing the Egyptian Family House 10 years ago, terming it as a model to be followed in entrenching the concept of citizenship and enriching the environment of peaceful coexistence.
