CAIRO – The Environment Ministry reviewed a report on Monday on the activities of “Fayyoum better without plastic” project which was launched in Fayyoum, where plastic bags are used in excess.
The project aims at raising awareness on the dangers of single-use plastic on the environment and health.
Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad asserted that the ministry started within the past years to take several executive measures to limit the use of single-use plastic.
The measures included launching a national initiative to limit the use of the single-use plastic via preparing an analytic study to the system of plastic in Egypt and the study found out four alternatives of plastic bags which include biodegradable bags, multi-use bags, paper bags and non-woven bags, she said.
The waste law includes an item that organises limiting the use of single-use plastic bags, she said.
The project aims at spreading several awareness messages to modify the negative practices that lead to the spread of plastic wastes via implementing a number of awareness activities including seminars, competitions and awareness campaigns.
The project launched awareness campaigns in the big supermarkets and included organising a group of workshops and training for the youth graduates and entrepreneurs.
