NAIROBI – Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad has called for stimulating community participation, including that by women, youth and local residents, in the planning process, especially as regards managing biodiversity and natural resources.

Fouad made the remarks during a virtual session titled “Time for Action: Integrated Efforts for Healthy Planet and People”.

The event was held as part of the fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2) that took place in Kenya under the theme “Strengthening Actions for Nature to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals”.

The Egyptian minister said, according to MENA, that community mobilization for action can become effective via making policies and strategies citizen-centered.

She also emphasized the importance of launching awareness-raising campaigns with a view to enhancing communities’ participation in achieving sustainable development goals.

In the same regard, she called for supporting local initiatives seeking to attain the same objective.
