Egypt’s Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad on Saturday inaugurated the first meeting of the environment and climate policies committee and held discussions on its goals alongside roles and responsibilities of its members throughout the upcoming period.
The meeting was attended by CEO of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) Ali Abu Senna, advisors of the environment and local development minister, members of the committee from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Finance, Local Development, Investment, Electricity, Petroleum and Industry.
The beginning of the committee activities was through cooperation with the Ministry of International Cooperation, via the World Bank, the minister said.
She added that the Environment Ministry has subsequently cooperated with a number of ministries on several files, most notably the decarbonization as well as topics related to the electricity and petroleum sectors.
Fouad said that committee has jointly worked for 18 months on submitting the report of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on assessment of the green growth policies.
