CAIRO – Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad had talks with Danish climate and energy minister Dan Jorgensen on bilateral cooperation ahead of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UNFCCC, set for Sharm El Sheikh in November.
The two sides discussed how to render the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) successful, especially in view of climate change that slammed several world counties recently.
Fouad said Egypt focuses in COP27 on financing and adapting to climate change.
She noted that four main issues Egypt seeks to address during the international event; namely food security, agriculture, water, nature and biodiversity, and waste.
Egypt seeks also to tackle how the private sector can contribute to relevant projects, particularly in Africa.
She stressed that financing adaptation will be tackled during a COP27 special day for financing.
She added that it is a top priority to address energy resources, decarbonization efforts and financing heavy industries, like cement factories.
Meanwhile, Jorgensen said the latest scientific data shows that global climate change is accelerating.
He underlined the importance of the issues due to be raised at the COP27.
He stressed the importance of curbing the use of fossil fuel, facilitating energy resources change in order to depend on renewable energy, and allowing people to resources.
