Egypt’s Minister of Environment and Ministerial Coordinator of COP27 Yasmine Fouad on Thursday said the final political communique of Africa Climate Summit has praised hosting the UN Climate change Conference (COP27) by Egypt as well as the historic breakthrough of introducing the Loss and Damage Fund.
The statement of the African summit has asserted the significance of finalizing the establishment of the fund and meeting the global goal of climate resilience, the minister added.
Fouad was speaking at a closed-door session held to reach an African consensus regarding the final political communique of the African Climate Summit, with the participation of the environment ministers of South Africa, Kenya and Zambia, the African Union Commission for Infrastructure and Energy alongside Kenyan President William Ruto.
The final communique of the summit entails backing files of funding climate change issues, promoting investments in Africa, along with seeking fresh mechanisms for cutting down burden of debt suffered by developing nations, according to the minister.
Minister Fouad, meanwhile, added that the summit’s final communique hailed efforts of the UAE regarding its underway preparations for hosting the anticipated COP28 conference, which is set to take place in November.
