Egypt’s Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi discussed with Italian ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni and his accompanying delegation means of boosting bilateral co-operation in files of mutual interest.
The Emigration Ministry in a statement on Tuesday said that the minister’s meeting with the Italian diplomat falls within the framework of continuing talks on what has been discussed with Italian Interior Minister Matteo Biantidosi.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed on strengthening co-operation between Egypt and Italy and establishing an Egyptian-Italian centre for training workers to join the labour market in Italy.
The minister stressed the importance of the meeting in expanding co-operation between the two countries, taking into account the historical and strong ties binding the Egyptian and Italian peoples and the presence of a large Egyptian community in Italy.
The minister expressed her readiness to discuss all areas that would enhance bilateral co-operation.
Egypt has made great strides in the field of combating illegal immigration, she said, noting that her ministry’s work within the framework of the “Survival Boats” presidential initiative to raise awareness among youth of the danger of illegal migration.
Talks between the two sides also took up a visit in March by Vice-President of the European Commission for Promoting the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas.
For his part, the Italian ambassador said the existing co-operation between Egypt and Italy within the framework of the Italian hotel school in Fayyoum governorate, in which young people are trained to work in the hotel industry.
