Egyptian Emigration Minister Soha Gendi held an important meeting with members and icons of the Egyptian community in the Horn of Africa region, including Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia.
The meeting – held under “an hour with the minister” initiative falls within the framework of the state’s keenness on following up on the conditions of Egyptians abroad.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry said the Egyptian ambassadors to Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti participated in the meeting via video-conference alongside Strategic Advisor to the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission Amr Aljowaily.
Gendi said Africa represents a top priority for Egypt and the ministry is keen on having direct contact with all Egyptians abroad and solving their problems.
She reviewed a package of incentives offered to Egyptians abroad, including the law on exempting their cars from taxes and fees.
She also referred to the investment company of Egyptian expats and various indirect remittance mechanisms, including dollar-dominated saving certificates with the highest interest rates.
She also referred to several initiatives launched by the ministry, including “Reviving Roots” and “Speak Arabic”.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to confront illegal immigration.
