Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held high-level talks on Friday with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Minister of Industry Khaled Hashim to strengthen inter-ministerial coordination on energy security, efficiency, and sustainability across the industrial sector.
Discussions during the meeting focused on advancing a unified framework for regulating energy supply and allocation to various industries, while aligning efforts to implement sustainability standards and optimise energy use.
They centred on a shared strategic vision to meet the energy demands of Egypt’s industrial expansion and development plans, while maximising returns on energy consumption and unlocking alternative opportunities across diverse industrial sectors.
The ministers reviewed progress in implementing the national energy strategy, including the rollout of solar, wind, and other clean energy projects. These efforts are aimed at raising the share of renewable energy in Egypt’s energy mix to 45% by 2028, accelerating earlier targets set at 42% by 2030.
Talks also addressed initiatives to localise the manufacturing of components and equipment used in renewable energy projects. This includes enhancing regulatory frameworks to boost local content in solar and wind developments, according to a statement from the Ministry of Electricity.
Further discussions explored mechanisms to support industrial localisation, facilitate the transfer of advanced technologies, and expedite the deployment of renewable energy projects. Expanding reliance on clean energy remains a cornerstone of Egypt’s broader sustainable development agenda.
The meeting underscored the pivotal role of private sector partnerships in delivering the national energy strategy and scaling up renewable energy capacity, alongside the importance of sustained coordination between the electricity, petroleum, and industry sectors within the framework of the state’s long-term development plans.
