The Enppi and Petrojet Consortium has been entrusted with the building of a solar power station for the Assiut Oil Refining Company.
The LE550 million solar energy facility with a 10 MW capacity is expected to take 11 months to build, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Mulla announced on Monday.
The petroleum sector is currently working on a similar project with a 6.5 MW capacity for the General Petroleum Company. The project will cost worth LE500 million, the minister said, adding that the European Union within the Support for Energy Policy Reform programme will fund both schemes added.
The two projects will mean more sustainable energy sources, easing the pressure on the national grid, while meeting increasing domestic and industrial demand for electricity, not to mention the savings in fossil fuel consumption,” el-Molla said.
The minister added that the results are being studied in preparation for generalizing the experiment to various remote production sites, which will contribute to maximizing the added value, reducing the import of petroleum products, and dispensing with diesel generators completely.
