Egyptian Minister of Local Development Hesham Amna on Monday inspected the waste recycling plant at Tuna Al-Jabal, Mallawi, el-Minya Governorate 270 kilometres south of Cairo.
The plant, a joint project between the ministries of local development, environment, planning and military production is to be handed over soon to the governorate.
The minister was briefed by representatives of the Ministry of Military Production on the components of the plant, which is built on 11 feddans (acres) with an hourly operating capacity of 20 tonnes and daily capacity of 320 tonnes.
The plant, which cost LE 90 million, processes waste into organic fertiliser.
Three sanitary landfills, an intermediate station and a mobile station are destined for Samalout, Zawiyet Hussein, Dirmwas and Mallawi, the minister said, adding that LE300 million has been invested in waste management for el-Minya.
The minister referred to directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on municipal solid waste management in various governorates.
Amna said his ministry consistently follows up development of the wate management system, ensuring that infrastructure projects are completed on schedule.
