Egypt’s National Council for Human Rights on Monday welcomed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s decision to return a draft criminal procedure law to parliament for review amid concerns over several articles.
The council said the move reflects respect for the constitution and international human rights obligations, sending a positive message about the state’s commitment to reform. It added it would submit detailed recommendations to ensure the final version aligns with constitutional and human rights standards.
Parliament is scheduled to convene on October 1, with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expected to deliver a statement on the revisions. The president had earlier submitted formal objections under Article 123 of the constitution, urging a balanced and precise legal framework that safeguards freedoms while ensuring justice.
