Rafah, Egypt – The Rafah border crossing has remained open from the Egyptian side for the 28th consecutive day, despite continued closure by Israeli authorities on the Palestinian side, an official at the Rafah terminal confirmed on Monday.
Egypt continues to keep the crossing operational in anticipation of receiving wounded Palestinians, patients, and their companions seeking urgent medical treatment. Medical teams and ambulances remain on high alert at the terminal, fully prepared to handle incoming cases.
According to the official, as of March 18, a total of 1,700 injured individuals and patients, along with 2,500 companions, had crossed through the terminal in 45 separate batches.
However, the Israeli side has kept the crossing closed since March 2, blocking the entry of humanitarian aid trucks and heavy equipment essential for Gaza’s reconstruction. The closure has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, which has endured extensive destruction following 15 months of Israeli military aggression.
