CAIRO – Egypt’s population – estimated in 2021 at 109.3 million – is expected to reach 158.8 million by 2050, according to a report released by Fetch Ratings.
This came in the cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) analysis of international reports tackling Egyptian affairs.
The agency expected that Egypt’s population will increase at an average annual rate of 1.7 to 1.8 million.
The population growth is attributed to growing fertility estimated at 3.2, the fourth biggest rate in the Middle East and North Africa region, the report said.
Infants (0-4) will make up 8.4 percent of Egypt’s population by 2049 while (5-9) age group increased from 12.9 million in 2021 to 13.6 million by 2049.
Demand on primary education (10-14 years) during the same period will increase as the number of children included in this age group will increase from 10.9 million in 2021 to 13.3 million in 2049.
The secondary/college stage (15-19 years) will also increase. The number of teenagers will increase from 9.7 million in 2021 to 12.6 million in 2049.
