Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has issued a decree requiring shops, malls, and restaurants to close daily at 9:00 PM, starting tomorrow, for a period of one month.
Under the decision, operating hours will be extended until 10:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays, as well as during official and public holidays. Home delivery services will continue to operate around the clock.
The new operating hours apply to all retail shops, commercial centers, restaurants, cafes, and bazaars, as well as sports clubs and youth centres, all of which must close by 9:00 pm (with extended hours on weekends and holidays).
Essential providers, such as pharmacies and supermarkets, are exempt from these restrictions. Furthermore, the decree does not apply to transit-based catering at ports and stations, nor to licensed tourist establishments within hotels or located in designated tourism governorates (South Sinai, Luxor, Aswan, and Red Sea resorts).
Specific nighttime operating hours will be established for wholesale markets and fresh food retailers.
