CAIRO – Egypt’s hosting of COP27 Conference, which is due to be held in November in Sharm El Sheikh, affirms its pioneering role in international negotiations, affirmed Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad.
The COP27 is considered the largest conference at the global and at the UN levels, Fouad, who is also the ministerial coordinator and envoy of the COP27 Climate Conference, said.
As host of COP27, Egypt will benefit from this international event, either in terms of partnerships or international media which will spotlight on the host country, added the minister.
The minister’s remarks came during her participation in a special episode of the narrative summit, “The Launch of Sustainability,” which coincides with Egypt’s preparations to host the COP27 Conference.
The summit was also held to shed light on the most important achievements and development projects with a future view of the most important issues on the local and global arenas.
The preparation for the conference provided an excellent opportunity for the State to highlight national projects, the New Republic and efforts to develop the environmental file, in addition to opportunities for partnerships in projects such as green hydrogen and other projects to localise technology.
It also represents a very good opportunity to integrate the climate change file into various sectors at the State level, added the minister.
The minister, meanwhile, explained that Egypt’s interest in hosting the COP27 conference is due to several main reasons, the first of which is that Egypt plays a very crucial role in international negotiations at the level of the Climate Change Agreement, and an important role at the level of the African Group when President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was Chairman of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) from 2015 to 2017.
Regarding the organization of the climate conference, Fouad said that the logistical part of the conference will consist of a blue area that includes the conference hall with its annex.
It is important that Egypt provides youth, women and civil society with this inclusive conference and also provides the opportunity to present the national projects and the New Republic, which is the green zone that will be adjacent to the blue zone, added the minister.
